BOYS AND GIRLS OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

GOLD Trip - All Girls

BOLD Trip - All Boys

BOLD & GOLD Trip - Coed

BOLD & GOLD is an exciting new national program offered by the YMCA. We take small groups of middle and high school students into the technology free outdoors to discover what it truly means to connect.  Through these connections, our campers learn what it means to be a leader. Participants will learn to cook their own meals, set up tents, and navigate on a week long backpacking trip.

OUR TRIP

This trip takes participants through the beautiful Red River Gorge of east-central Kentucky. Here, they will hike low forested river canyons, over and under sandstone arches and ledges, and through the wild and scenic Red River. During their 5-day expedition they will gain invaluable leadership, communication, and social skills while hiking with all that the need for the week on their backs.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE OVERVIEW

Sunday Check In to Monday Morning

Participants arrive at Camp Carson on Sunday between 1:00 PM CST and 2:30 PM CST.

During this time, families will have the opportunity to meet with the trip leaders and discuss any specific questions they might have with them.

After an all camp orientation, participants will discuss the specific trip details with the trip leaders and begin to pack for their 5 day backpacking trip. Once they are finished packing and have had dinner, the participants are invited to take part in our Opening Campfire celebration. They will then shower, get ready for bed, and spend the night here on site. The participants will wake up early Monday morning, eat breakfast, grab their supplies, and head down to the Red River Gorge in Daniel Boone National Forest.

Why BOLD and GOLD?

Hands On Leadership Skills

On a BOLD & GOLD trip, each participant gets to try a hand at actually leading a group with mentoring and coaching support along the way. Every trip is different because it’s made up of a different combination of personalities and skills each time. Participants will learn to use critical thinking and problem solving to decide how to face challenges as a group.

Lifetime Friends

Everyone is unique, has something to contribute, and is welcome in the BOLD & GOLD family. When participants come willing to share what they think and care about and allow others the same, connections happen.

Thoughtfully Designed Programs

Everything we do is intentional; from the length of our hikes to the time we build in to relax and play games. We build groups that work well together as a team as well as individuals, providing opportunities to practice communication and collaboration.
