COMMUNICATION WITH CAMPERS
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION & PACKAGES
PLEASE KEEP ALL CORRESPONDENCE POSITIVE and FOCUSED ON CAMP
Example: “We know you’re having a good time and making lots of new friends! Have you tried _____ yet…” Avoid saying things like “we miss you and can’t wait ‘til you get home, the dog won’t eat because he misses you so much and we just had a great day at Six Flags.” :) This can sometimes trigger homesickness etc.
MAIL via USPS, UPS, FED EX.
Letters to campers can be mailed, just remember most campers are here for just one week, so mail letters early so they arrive before your camper leaves. Please address mail as follows:
TO LEAVE MAIL AT CHECK IN
Alternatively, you may also leave mail during Check In in the main lodge - there will be a basket labeled for each day of the week. Please mark each piece with your camper's name, cabin and day you would like the piece delivered to your camper. Just drop it in the appropriate daily basket. Mail is delivered to the campers at lunch.
A NOTE ABOUT FOOD IN CARE PACKAGES
We strive to keep the cabins critter free, especially ants. For this reason, we ask that food items are not included in care packages. Your help in this is greatly appreciated.
VIEWING CAMP PHOTOGRAPHS EVERY DAY
We upload photos each day so you can see what's going on at camp – there is NO COST to VIEW photos. Options are available to purchase photographs, a link to this service will be sent to you prior to Camp.
PLEASE NOTE: By making application, it is understood that permission is given to use pictures in which your child as a camper may appear in the Camp brochure, DVD, website or other promotional literature/posters used by the camp, YMCA of Southwestern Indiana Inc., American Camp Association, YMCA of the USA, or other camp affiliates.
PHONE CALLS & CELL PHONES
In order for campers to truly adjust to camp away from Mom and Dad, phone calls between campers and parents are not permitted. In our experience, campers who are having difficulty adjusting to camp are further set back when they hear Mom and Dad's voice. Please leave all cell phones at home. All cell phones left at camp will be taken to the camp office for safe keeping. For more info, see Technology Policy under Camper Forms.
EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
If you need to reach us in an emergency situation, please contact the camp office at 812-385-3597. An after-hours contact number will be available if you call when the office is closed for the day.
